Commodore - Carole Lick
My roots are in Michigan, a state with Great Lakes galore! Boating, both sail and power, have been part of my life since “forever”. Michigan State University is my alma mater and that of many family members, including our daughter and son, my dad with his degree in 1934, and Don (my husband). Don was a grad student when I met him and took his College Algebra class. The rest is history as they say. The Green and White has been an integral part of our lives for as long as I can remember. Something I never dreamed I would do is participate in a statewide election. It resulted in my serving an eight-year term on the MSU Board of Trustees.
My career has taken two primary paths: the first in Special Education for 12 years and then non- profit management and fundraising for the national Alzheimer’s Association. This was particularly meaningful as my dad was diagnosed shortly after I was hired. Volunteer work has been a mainstay of my life and includes a variety of associations for which my related professional work was helpful.
I love college sports, particularly MSU football and basketball. I also love any means possible to be on or in the water. We sailed for 20 years and switched to power boating for another 20 years. With retirement we moved to Florida for the warm weather and water activities year-round. Platinum Point Yacht Club became a part of our daily lives as I served on the board for several years and then went through the flag officer positions serving as Commodore in 2015.
I discovered the FCA through that experience and have enjoyed serving on the FCA Foundation board and then in FCA flag officer positons. It is an honor and privilege to serve with such talented and dedicated past commodores and other yacht club flag officers.
